Budget Classification
The Budget Classification (BUDCLSF) reference page allows the definition of classifications that can be assigned to certain or all budget line updates to capture any necessary information on a reason, authority, or any other need. The Active indication can help control what classification should no longer be used with an edit and controls filtering of inactive values when picking a value. Not all budget structures include the Budget Classification field. When available, it may be hidden.
An extended use of this budget line classification is with the Budget Line Pre-Selection process used in conjunction with a pre-selection from the Open Activity Lapse or Open Activity Roll process. The Pre-Selection process takes one or more budget classifications as a selection parameter. Budget lines that have those classifications are then selected and matched to Roll Lapse Pre-Selection records to update the action or approved status. This feature is used when the Parameters for Lapse and Parameters for Roll Process pages do not have the necessary COA for selection, or the number of values required in a COA selection field is too many for the field or too cumbersome to manually maintain.
Implementation of this use begins with the definition of one or more budget clarifications that will be set on budget lines. Those budget lines can either be exceptions to the common method of addressing open activity at year end, or they can be the normal method of addressing open activity at year end. One example of a configuration would be where a set of budget lines should have their activity lapsed because spending authority on them expires at the end of the budget year. These would be the exceptions to the rule as they would set the action to Lapse from Roll or from No Action. Our example could also be not the exception but the general rule.
