Electronic Federal Tax Payment System

The Electronic Federal Tax Payment System (EFTPS) page supports the electronic reporting of tax payments. The page holds the necessary data for online submission. Updates occur either manually or through the Populate EFTPS batch job.

It displays the time stamp of the most recent Populate EFTPS job that ran.

Payroll Type

Required

The Payroll Type is a required indication for the type of payroll processing that recorded the tax. Available options in the drop-down include:

  • Regular Payroll

  • Supplemental Payroll

  • Incremental Payroll

  • Railroad Retirement

  • Regular Retirement

  • Supplemental Retirement

Department

Required

The Department is a required key field for each record.

Taxpayer ID Number

Required

The Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) is the number used by the Internal Revenue Service to identify taxpaying entities and is a required field.

Check/EFT Issue Date

Required

The Check/EFT Issue Date is the date the tax was paid.

Check Number

Optional

Check Number reflects the individual payment.

Acknowledgement No

Optional

Acknowledgement No is an optional field that may be entered manually or left blank. This field indicates the value returned by online EFTPS once a file has been submitted for payment.

Date File Paid

Optional

An optional date that represents when the online EFTPS processed the payment to the IRS.

Settlement Date

Optional

The settlement date is the next banking business date from the EFT/check date. This date is populated from the interface.

Interface Date

Required

Timestamp indicating the date and time the outbound interface ran. This value is populated by the interface.

Total Amount

Required

The Total Amount is the sum of FICA Employee, FICA Employer, Total FICA Amount, Medicare Employee, Medicare Employer, and Total Medicare Amount.

Federal Amount

The total amount of Federal Withholding Taxes that were withheld from the employee payroll and retiree pay.

FICA Employee

-

This field defines the employee share of FICA that was withheld for the pay period.

FICA Employer

-

This field defines the employer share of FICA that was contributed for the pay period.

Total FICA Amount

-

This field is sum of the following fields: FICA Employee and FICA Employer. This amount is calculated by the system.

Medicare Employee

-

This field defines the employee share of Medicare that was withheld for the pay period.

Medicare Employer

-

This field defines the employer share of Medicare that was contributed for the pay period. 

Total Medicare Amount

-

This field is the sum of the following fields: Medicare Employee and Medicare Employer.  This amount is calculated by the system.
