Scheduling and Bursting of Power BI Analytics and Reports

The Report Subscription feature enables report administrator users to sign up for Power BI reports (that is, analytics) and paginated reports working with CGI. Users can choose their preferred schedule and receive an email containing either a snapshot and link to the report or analytic, or the entire report or analytic attached. Please refer to the provided Microsoft documentation link for guidance on establishing a fixed schedule.

Dynamic Subscriptions (that is, Bursting) provide the ability to distribute a personalized copy of a report to each recipient of an email subscription. For example, a report that contains multiple rows for department A and department B can be set up via dynamic subscriptions to send a report for department A rows to a set of users and a report with department B rows to another set of users.

Users determine their desired report view by indicating the filters applied to their report version. This functionality is applicable to both paginated reports and Power BI reports. The dynamic subscription filters are stored within a distinct Power BI semantic model, establishing the connection between recipients and their respective filters. During report distribution, the semantic model utilizes the latest available data to determine subscription recipients and apply the designated filters. Refer to the provided Microsoft documentation for guidance on configuring a dynamic schedule.

Considerations:

  • Report delivery options are restricted solely to email and may be subject to attachment limitations imposed by email service providers.

  • Power BI Dynamic Subscription is in preview mode as of the publication of this document and some features may change in the future.

  • Setting up report subscriptions is exclusive to native users (non-guest users) only.
