Benefit Plan Class

The Benefit Plan Class (BPCL) page defines the codes which group benefits plans.

Field

Description

General Information

Benefit Plan Class

Required.  Enter the deduction policy code.

From

Required.  Enter the date the information becomes effective.

To

Default is 12/31/9999.  Enter the last date the information is in effect.

Short Description

Required.  Enter a new or changed short description of the benefit plan class code.

Long Description

Default is Short Description entry.  Enter a new or changed long description of the benefit plan class code.

Benefit Coverage Indicator

Self

The Benefit Coverage Indicator options on the Employee Fringe Benefit Plan (BENP) page provides a complete list of enrollment options that allow benefits to be set with as much control or as much flexibility as desired.  Health insurance coverage can be established for a single carrier with plans that include the following: solely the employee, solely the spouse, solely the dependent(s), employee and spouse, employee and dependent(s), employee and spouse or dependent(s), spouse and dependent(s), and employee and spouse and dependent(s). The Self Coverage Indicator check box can be set to Not Allowed or Required.  

If the Employee field is selected in the BPCL Default Benefit Plan Class Coverage section, then the Self Coverage Indicator must be Required.  If the Employee field is cleared, the Self Coverage Indicator must be Not Allowed, otherwise an error is issued.

Spouse

The Spouse Coverage Indicator check box can be set to Not Allowed, Optional or Required.

If the Spouse field is selected in the BPCL Default Benefit Plan Class Coverage section, then the Spouse Coverage Indicator must be Required or Optional.  If the Spouse field is cleared, then the Spouse Coverage Indicator must be Not Allowed.

Dependent(s)

The Dependent Coverage Indicator checkbox can be set to Not Allowed, Optional, Optional w/o Spouse, or Required.

If the Dependent field is selected in the BPCL Default Benefit Plan Class Coverage section, then the Dependent(s) Coverage Indicator must be Required, Optional, or Optional w/o Spouse.  If the Dependent field is cleared, then the Dependent(s) Coverage Indicator must be Not Allowed.

Plan Coverage Total

The Number of Dependents drop-down list and text box allow you to state the number of dependents allowed for the plan. Valid values for the drop down list are:  Equal To, Equal To or Greater Than and Equal To or Less Than. Enter an integer value in the text box.  

The following rules apply:

If the Dependent(s) field is set to Required:

  • The Number of Dependent(s) drop-down list and text box are required.

  • If the Number of Dependent(s) Drop-Down List is Equal To or Equal To or Greater Than, then the Number of Dependent(s) text box must be greater than or equal to one.

  • If the Number of Dependent(s) Drop-Down List is Equal To or Less Than, then the Number of Dependent(s) text box must be greater than or equal to two.  

  • If the text box value is one, then the Drop-Down List value should be Equal To or Equal To or Greater Than.

If the Dependent(s) field is set to Not Allowed:

  • The Number of Dependent(s) text box must be blank.

If the Dependent(s) is Optional or Optional w/o Spouse:

  • If the Number of Dependent(s) Drop-Down List is Equal To or Equal To or Greater Than, the Number of Dependent(s) text box must be greater than or equal to zero.

  • If the Number of Dependent(s) Drop-Down List is Equal To or Less Than, the Number of Dependent(s) text box must be greater than or equal to one.
